Small urban SUVs are on the rise and their sales continue to grow year after year. More versatile than city cars, these crossovers have found their audience: families not too large and not too rich.
A brand-new generation of the Tucson is presented for 2022, and this one does not go unnoticed! Its unique front integrates the headlights into the grille, making it a vehicle that is recognizable at first glance. What's more, Hyundai is also innovating under the hood by offering hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of its compact SUV. On board, a fully digital display now replaces the traditional dials behind the steering wheel.
The Honda CR-V, currently in its fifth generation, will soon be replaced by a new model. A prototype of its replacement was caught in Germany by spy photographers. We can see a vehicle that seems a little more massive than before with a more conventional general look. The design of the new Honda CR-V appears to be more streamlined than the current model with a front end characterized by thin, aggressive headlamps extending into a hexagonal grille. The front, still copiously camouflaged, will only be an evolution of the current design of the SUV, while the rear lights also recall the already existing model of the CR-V. The overall length of the vehicle seems to be up slightly and the overall shape of the vehicle, more balanced.
The Kia Sportage returns with an all-new fifth generation, relying on its flirtatious personality and engine variety to stand out among compact SUVs. In the Kia range, the Sportage acts as a locomotive. The compact SUV was indeed the brand's best-selling model in France between 2010 and 2019 and today it is only surpassed by the Niro. Suffice to say that at the time of renewing its model, the Korean manufacturer must make an impression, in order to secure a leading position in the hotly contested niche of compact SUVs.
Taking on certain aesthetic elements of the Bronco, the Bronco Sport remains a very different vehicle. More compact, it is built from a completely different platform than the Bronco, which it shares with the Escape. The Ford Bronco Sport can be delivered with a three- or four-cylinder engine, both turbocharged. Power ranges from 181 to 250 horsepower. For off-road enthusiasts, the Badlands version is the one to prioritize.
In an
attempt to get back into the race, Subaru has just updated its Forester with a brand-new
front end and a special X-Break series as a bonus.
Can Subaru return to center stage? May be! In any case, the recently restyled Forester has potential with this brand new, much more modern front end. Still, to find a place in the SUV segment, there is work. Still, the Forester is a pioneer of its kind. Released in 1997, it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with, in particular, a special X-Break series. A quarter of a century later, it is the fifth generation of this Japanese SUV which benefits from an upgrade.
Over the years, the RAV4 has become well gentrified. For its 2022 vintage, in addition to new LED headlights, the Toyota family SUV is getting a little homecoming thanks to the arrival of an Adventure version (Trail in France) with a more assertive all-terrain style. The RAV4 does not receive any notable changes for the 2022 model year. Under the hood, the SUV can receive a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder available in three different versions. The first, which develops 203 horsepower, is gasoline-only. The second, good for 219 horsepower, is a hybrid but cannot be recharged. The third, exclusive to the RAV4 Prime, is a plug-in hybrid and has a 100% electric range of 68 km.
Deeply revised last year, the Nissan Rogue changes for 2022. Still available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, it also retains the same powertrain, namely a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder without a turbocharger. That said, a turbocharged three-cylinder engine is added to the catalog. Nissan has not yet announced the arrival of a hybrid or electrified version for the moment.
It's been a
few months that we know that the Volkswagen Tiguan will benefit from an update
for the 2022 model year. The changes will be mainly cosmetic, with a redesigned
front end, some retouching at the rear as well as a revised interior. which now
incorporates the latest version of Volkswagen's infotainment.
On the other hand, there is no change under the hood, where we find the same 2-litre turbo 4-cylinder, which still develops 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The latter remains associated with an 8-speed automatic transmission, as well as the 4Motion all-wheel drive which is now standard.
The Equinox is a compact SUV trying to hold its own in a competitive segment. In the case of the LS and LT versions, buyers have the choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. As for the LT version, it comes with all-wheel drive. Regardless of the version chosen, it is powered by a 170 horsepower 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder.
The Jeep
Wrangler is updated for 2022. In Europe next year, the rugged off-roader will
only be sold as a 4xe plug-in hybrid version. Increasingly strict CO2
regulations are forcing the American off-road vehicle specialist to act. For
example, in 2022, the Jeep Wrangler will only be available in Europe as a
plug-in hybrid version. This so-called 4xe-electric version combines a 2-liter turbo
engine with two electric motors linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox,
resulting in a combined power and torque of 381 hp and 637 Nm. The 0-100 sprint
km/h takes no more than 6.4 seconds.
