The Slingshot, an astonishing totally open three-wheeled vehicle of Canadian origin, underwent a revision of its style as well as its technical part at the beginning of the year. Slingshot’s Car 2022 are really futuristic machines.
Seen from a distance, the Slingshot's Car defends
pretty well aesthetically. Its sleek look and low center of gravity make it a
vehicle that is sure to turn heads. That is the impression he leaves us as
observers. On the other hand, when you get behind the wheel, it's a whole
different story. Polaris, among the new 2022 versions, had to make compromises
to offer a vehicle at such a good price that can drive even in the rain.
Three-wheelers offer a feeling of raw speed that's
almost like a motorcycle experience, albeit with the stability of a car to keep
things tidy. And one of the best trikes on the market is the Polaris Slingshot,
which has been bringing smiles to Slingshot’s car faces since 2014.
Slingshot in 2022 offers S, SL, SLR and R versions.
If the noise and the approval of the mechanics are nothing to excite, all
versions of Slingshot give a smile from the first turns of the wheel. The
driving position low to the ground and the scalloped doors accentuate the
feeling of speed while the very contained body roll makes you feel the effect
of centrifugal force.
The S is a stripped-down model. The SL is the volume
powerhouse, with most of the options everyone wants as standard, like Apple
Car-play and a windshield. Visually, the S is distinguished by a tubular steel
roll bar above each seat, where the SL and R have large, stylized aluminum roll
bars. The R gets a power boost and more aggressive colorways.
The SL and R have two riding modes, called Comfort
Mode and Slingshot Mode. Slingshot mode will increase throttle response and
tighten steering effort for a more aggressive ride. Honestly, Slingshot mode
should be the default.
This Slingshot SLR is equipped with 28 speakers, 4
subwoofers and can provide an output power of 3000 watts. The very effective
suspensions still provide a good level of comfort. The very direct power
steering contributes to the feeling of responsiveness of the machine, as does
the gearbox, which is as firm as it is precise. The close pedal set with a
brake pedal without a brake booster is similar to that of a competition car.
But if the slowdowns are reassuring, the single-piston calipers lack endurance
and bite in sports use.
Under the hood of the new Polaris Slingshot, the
stock General Motors 2.4 four-cylinder engine has been replaced with an
in-house developed 2.0. The power of this new block reaches 180 hp for 163 Nm
of torque. A configuration that can be found in the first versions available in
the catalog, the Slingshot SL and now S. The power increases to 206 hp and the
torque to 195 Nm on the most powerful Slingshot R and R Limited Edition. A
manual transmission is offered on all versions, as is an unprecedented
Auto-Drive automatic gearbox with paddle shifters as standard on the R version.
The transmission system, judged by some of our colleagues as steeped in bad compromises and rather imperfect, has been completely revised for a significantly improved driving experience according to the manufacturer. Gear changes will thus seem smoother and faster than on the old version approved in 2014 in the United States.
In terms of behavior, the Slingshot knows how to be
as stable at high speed as it is agile in tight turns. Its well-calibrated ESP
anti-skid leaves a little freedom to move the rear wheel and can disconnect to
perform controlled skids. What a good laugh without reaching prohibited speeds.
The Polaris Slingshot is one of the most recognized Polaris models. Being a three-wheeled motorcycle, it has the ability to turn heads like no exotic car can. With plenty of power in a lightweight package, the Polaris Slingshot will also give you the performance of an exotic car. Prices in the USA vary between $19,999 (S version) to $32,799 (R Limited Edition version).
