Finally, The Ford Bronco bares its fangs. As expected, Ford unveiled the supercharged version of the latest generation of the Bronco at the start of 2022. The American manufacturer says it created this version of the Bronco inspired by the 4x4 competition Ultra4 Racing.
Aesthetically, this Ford Bronco seems much more aggressive than the basic version. The front is marked by a grille with the Ford logo, while the original grille bears the name of the SUV. The LED lights are specific to this muscular version, as is its “ultra-resistant” bumper, which includes a tow hook and off-road lights. The body of the 4x4 has been widened.
There was probably place to fit a V8
under the hood, but Ford decided otherwise. The blue oval brand is increasingly
trusting the six-cylinder, whether on the big F150, the GT supercar and now the
Bronco Raptor, the "most powerful Bronco" to date. For now, Ford has
not yet lifted the veil on the final characteristics, even if we should have a
cavalry of around 405 hp.
Ford announces that the most powerful Bronco ever produced is powered by a V6 bi-turbo 3.0 EcoBoost block whose power is announced at “over 400 hp”. This engine also receives cooling and intake systems “engineered to withstand the high temperatures of the desert”. The Bronco Raptor is equipped with a ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, dedicated to crossing, and several off-road modes. A mode also allows this very nervous Bronco - whose suspension has been reinforced - to tow up to 2,041 kilos.
Ford has installed a new 12-inch digital instrument cluster, which can display a Raptor-exclusive menu on which the driver will find a virtual tachometer, the gear engaged and customizable gauges. On the center console is a 12-inch touch screen that embeds the SYNC 4 operating system. Customizable upholstery is available in an orange and black livery reminiscent of the world of Ford Performance. This look is embellished by the sports steering wheel exclusive to the Bronco Raptor.
The competition isn't huge for the
Bronco Raptor, but it is very tough. It mainly consists of Jeep Wrangler
Rubicon 392 and Land Rover Defender V8. At just under $70,000 excluding
additional federal taxes, the Bronco is not cheap. The additional cost compared
to the Wildtrack version indeed reaches 20,000 dollars! However, it remains
more accessible than the Wrangler Rubicon 392 (5000 dollars less), but the Jeep
is entitled to a large V8 that is significantly more powerful.
Deliveries will then take place “during the summer of 2022”.
