Here are
the best 2022 full-size trucks. We've ranked them based on performance, quality
and usability.
One of the most popular full-size pickup trucks in the country, the Ram 1500 is available in a large number of versions. Several engines are also on the program, from the Pentastar V6 to the HEMI V8, not to mention the formidable 6.2-litre Hellcat engine mounted in the TRX version. For 2022, we note the arrival of a 10th anniversary Limited edition as well as a new G/T performance package offered in Sport, Rebel and Laramie models.
The Toyota
Tundra has essentially been - until today - the father-in-law's truck that
shuns American brands.
A quiet student in the full-size pickup class, it appears statistically less often on consumers' shopping lists, and spotting one on a job site or towing a camper is a relatively rare occurrence. The 2022 Tundra incorporates a new pair of turbocharged engines (including a hybrid version) and up to 583 lb-ft of torque, not to mention a beefier look and a modernized cabin that rivals – and even surpasses – certain tenors of the technology industry.
Unlike other mid-size pickups, the Honda Ridgeline uses a single shell chassis that is closer to a utility vehicle philosophy than a pickup truck. The result is a versatile vehicle that surprises with its comfort and smooth ride. The Ridgeline uses the same 3.5-liter V6 that powers the Passport and Pilot SUVs. A Trail Sport version with improved off-road skills is expected soon.
The
Colorado pickup truck is starting to age within the Chevrolet product family,
but it will get a little refreshing injection for the next year with the
addition of a Trail Boss variant to the catalog.
If the name
rings a bell, it's that a version with that name is already offered with the
full-size Silverado pickup.
Additional equipment that makes up the Trail Boss package will be dealer installed. It can be added to the LT and Z71 versions. It includes a package that raises the suspension an inch, offers different wheels and doubles as underbody skid plates. Plus, it offers a distinct visual treatment that will make the grind recognizable at first glance. It's similar to what the AT4 trim level offers from GMC's side with Colorado's sister model, the GMC Canyon.
The last
order cycle for the new GMC Canyon model will be June 9, 2022. The end of
production for the Diesel models comes as General Motors prepares for
production of the next generation 2023 GMC Canyon.
In the category of intermediate pickup trucks, the GMC Canyon stands out with a very wide range of choices of cabins and engines. The pickup can come with three powertrains, including a 2.8-liter diesel unit that's particularly adept at towing.
Designed to tow heavy loads, the GMC Sierra "Heavy Duty" line does not do things by mistake. Equipped with a 6.6-litre V8 engine (gasoline or diesel), GMC Sierra 2500HD offers several technologies designed to improve towing. GMC is also betting on luxury with the offer of a Denali version featuring chrome accents and a better equipped interior. After all, we deserve a little luxury when we work so hard!
Virtually unchanged since its return to our roads in 2019, the Ford Ranger remains offered with a single engine, a 2.3-litre 4-cylinder block that unleashes 270 horsepower and allows a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. This year, the Splash Appearance Package returns to the lineup, adding a bit of whimsy with decorative elements on the body and inside the cabin, as well as 18-inch wheels with a matte black finish.
Unlike the
big Tundra, which will be completely redesigned for the 2022 model year,
Toyota's Tacoma midsize truck has to wait its turn.
For 2022, the fearsome TRD Pro version of the Tacoma gets custom TRD-tuned Fox internal bypass shocks and new TRD-tuned aluminum upper control arms. These are part of a suspension that is raised 1.5 inches in the front and half an inch in the rear.
If the
American market remains dominated by XXL pickups, the leading manufacturer
intends to boost the category of compact pickups with the introduction of its
new model: the Ford Maverick. Nothing to do with an American compact appeared
in the 1970s, nor even with a Japanese 4x4 rebadged Ford during the 1990s. The
Maverick of the 21st century is a pickup with new ambitions.
The new
Jeep Gladiator is very statutory with a very strong stylistic bias. But it is
above all his measurements that impress!
With its double cabin, its total length of 5.59 m and a wheelbase of 3.48 m, the new Jeep utility clearly gives pride of place to habitability and does not forget the loading space of its platform. The latter was rightly put at the center of the reflection during the design of the new Jeep pickup. Indeed, the tray of the new Jeep pickup benefits from a length of 153 cm and a width of 144 cm. The Gladiator also benefits from a payload of 613 kg. The tray has a washable PVC coating on which you will find the Trail Rail system and its anchor hooks. The tipper also offers a waterproof power outlet and LED lighting. With such a configuration, the new Gladiator will respond as well to your professional activities during the week as to your leisure activities on the weekends.
