Opel is accelerating its electrification with the aim of becoming a 100% electric brand by 2028. Indeed, the German car manufacturer will offer an electrified version of each car it markets, thus, a new Opel Manta with purely electric propulsion will make its entry by 2025.
Opel will offer a
complete range of electrified models and customers will be able to choose
between several electric models, from the compact to the sedan via the SUV or
the coupe, there will be something for everyone.
Even before the
takeover by PSA in 2017, the idea of making Opel a brand dedicated to electric
vehicles was in the air. The delay was finally a little longer than expected,
and it will be for 2028.
A platform that we
will also undoubtedly find in 2025 with the new Manta. A launch that will come
to oversee the range. An electric Opel Manta is also in the cards. However, it
will have nothing to do with the coupe of the 70s. It will be a large D-segment
SUV. To give it a sporty tone, Opel is counting on the performance inherent in
the platform and the electric propulsion, but also on a more distinctive design
than the rest of the range.
As a consolation
prize, we learn that high-performance batteries will be integrated into the new
generation of electric models from Opel. The Manta is said to offer "pure
driving pleasure" and "first-class acceleration", while the new
EVs will have a charging speed of up to 32 km per minute and a range of 500 to
800 km.
Forget the thermal engines of the original coupe, this new Manta is
meant to be contemporary. The "e" in GSe says it all. This Manta is
driven by an electric motor. Whose characteristics are quite similar to those
of the Corsa-e or the Mokka-e. It delivers a power of 108 kW or 147 hp and a
torque of 255 Nm. Its battery with a capacity of 31 kWh would allow it to
travel around 200 kilometers on a single charge, according to the manufacturer.
Manual or automatic, the choice is yours. It is possible to change gears
manually, there are 4 in total, as on the original Manta. But if you engage the
last of the gears, the box can upshift or downshift in perfect autonomy.
These colors are reminiscent of cars intended for races such as rallies.
It has huge rims capable of fitting 17-inch wheels. This detail gives the Manta
a sports car look. At the front, it reveals a dynamic grille that looks like an
LED screen capable of displaying messages. The headlights are white-colored
LEDs that form an L letter in the ends of the grille.
The illustration
put forward by OPEL announces a black flag describing an arc of a circle as
well as wings highlighted by front extractors and rear side air intakes. This
future Manta-e already promises to be the flagship of OPEL's electrification,
since it will only be available in a single version, a zero-emission version.
This choice of a
single engine is part of OPEL's desire to produce only electric vehicles by
2028.
This futuristic
model will not see the light of day before 2025, so it will be necessary to
redouble your patience to one day drive this vehicle. In the meantime, we can
already see all the ambition that OPEL has in the development of electric
vehicles by noting the dazzling success of the German brand's latest MOKKA.
Aesthetically,
this model adopts the new face of Opel. The driver now faces a new fully
digital dashboard combining purity and audacity. The sports seats of yesteryear
with their yellow center line now offer a level of comfort and lateral support
far superior to that of the original.
The new Manta ElektroMOD pushes digitalization to the maximum level. Opel designers had fun bringing its legendary logo, engine and lights to life to make them look like a QR code.
