After 8 years of good and loyal service, the fourth generation of the Opel Corsa gives way to a brand-new version. the current Opel Corsa could benefit from a major facelift consisting of making it adopt the Vizor, the new identity of the Blitz.
the sixth generation of the Opel Corsa
progresses in all areas. It's a habit at Opel, before each launch of a new
vehicle, a few journalists are invited to a short drive. The goal, to give
their feelings before the final adjustments prior to the production of the car.
Important feedback for engineers,
especially when it comes to a model as important as the new Corsa. With its
13.6 million units sold worldwide since 1982, the versatile city car is
fundamental for the German brand.
By its figures
first, it represents 23% of the manufacturer's sales, but also since it is the
first real model since the takeover of Opel by the PSA group in 2017, the
Crossland X and Grandland X having been technical partnerships.
If the facies are
unrecognizable, the profile remains very close to that of the current model:
for a simple restyling, it is almost inevitable. It also remains to be seen
whether the dashboard will also be inspired by that of the Mokka, characterized
by its two large juxtaposed screens.
The Opel Corsa would adopt a black bonnet to identify its full-electric variant, named Corsa-e. Unlike the Crossland and Grandland, it should escape the development of a brand-new stamped bonnet to review only the part housed downstream of this opening, in order to adapt to the horizontal lines of a Vizor housing new optics. There's enough space to tuck your feet under the front seats, and the scooped backrests increase knee surface. Cargo volume has increased from 370 to 422 liters from one generation to the next. The wide enough opening facilitates loading. The Astra even has a double boot floor.
The least we can say is that
this Opel Corsa has evolved a lot compared to the previous generation, with
very conventional lines, by adopting here a neater style, with an assertive
character. The lines are indeed becoming more Latin, but above all much more
dynamic, an essential development so that it can make a real place for itself
on the market. At the front, the look therefore gains in aggressiveness, thanks
to the angular optics, surrounding a grille crossed by a thin chrome strip.
Lower, the shield is sportier, with its fog lamps resembling air intakes from
afar. At the rear too, the city car has evolved considerably, with a light
signature benefiting in particular from a new pencil stroke, as has the
tailgate. Nevertheless, the dimensions remain more or less the same as the old
one, with a length of 4.06 meters, or 4 centimeters more than before. On the
other hand, the car loses 5 centimeters in height, while the dynamism is
increased by the short overhangs.
A profile view, the city car
is also very beautiful, with its dynamic sides and its slightly marked fenders,
all highlighted by an optional floating roof, which is then adorned with black
to make the whole more refined. Visually, Fans of a sporty style will more
readily turn to the GS version, delivered as standard with the Sport Line pack.
This includes many specific elements, including the front and rear bumpers, the
chrome exhaust outlet (two on the 130-horsepower version) as well as the LED
fog lamps. In addition, if our test model is dressed in a very sober shade,
namely Moonlight gray, it is obviously possible to opt for more fun colors.
There is also a choice of six styles of rims for the thermal version and two
for the electric.
This Opel Corsa is actually very versatile and can easily accompany you on longer journeys, thanks to its many technological equipment delivered as standard. These include speed limiter/controller, lane keeping assist, anti-drowsiness alert and traffic sign recognition. A complete arsenal which is part of the standard endowment and which therefore allows the city car to place itself at the level of the stars of the segment and thus gain a few places in the ranking of the best-selling models. In addition, note also the great sobriety of the small German, which displays an average consumption of only 4.2 liters in the combined cycle. A real asset for the city car, which also escapes the ecological penalty, with its emissions of between 96 and 98 g/km.
