The new Hyundai Tucson is a compact SUV that sells like hotcakes. If the Tucson is such a commercial success that’s because the Korean manufacturer has really put the package on the development of this fourth generation. Starting with an innovative design that contrasts radically with that of the old model.
For its fourth
generation, Hyundai is changing everything so as not to lose ground on the
competition and maybe even catch up with the latter. Here is the main
information on the Hyundai Tucson in a few key points:
·
A new platform:
one of the main changes for this Tucson that allows the brand to start from
scratch. Thanks to the latter, comfort is increased and the vehicle takes in
length and width with 20 mm on one side and 15 mm more on the other side.
·
A front designed
with a very marked Design: A completely new face at the front of the Tucson
with a spectacular light signature that seems to be one with the grille.
·
An aggressive rear:
with lights in the shape of teeth but also this long red band that can be found
in particular on the side of Porsche, Hyundai adds character to its vehicle.
The hidden rear wiper, located under the spoiler, also gives originality to the
car.
·
An ever more
connected interior: a new 10.25-inch digital handset (for the top of the range
if not 8 inches for the standard version) and many connected services are
present in the family SUV.
·
An unprecedented
engine: thanks to the new platform, several possibilities have arisen for
Hyundai. Beyond the gasoline and diesel engines, the Korean brand is also
launching, from the launch, a non-rechargeable hybrid version of 230
horsepower.
The first glance
is really nice, its lines cut with a billhook, it gives character and the
grille necessarily challenges. It is particularly successful with the lighting
which fits perfectly into the whole. It gives this beautiful SUV an original
and sporty side.
The transitions
are well controlled, the whole thing is pleasantly transmitted to the wheels by
a powerful and smooth automatic gearbox. Hybridization makes it possible to
contain consumption levels. An average of 3.8 l/100 km on a mixed course. Once
the batteries were flat, fuel consumption simply doubled, totaling an average
of 7.5 l/100 km on the same route, without practicing eco-driving. Only a
regeneration at the lift of the foot allows the Tucson to recover energy.
Since we are on
board, it is difficult not to mention the new dashboard with its very refined
design. The absence of a cap above the digital counters facilitates visibility
and the 10.25-inch touch screen is placed at the right height. We also appreciate
the numerous storage spaces, the wide central armrest and the quality of the
materials, which are quite good overall. On the other hand, the ergonomics are
more questionable, Hyundai having chosen to install many touch controls on the
central console. Difficult to find while driving.
Gasoline, diesel,
hybrid, plug-in hybrid: the new Tucson's engine range is complete. For this
test, we opted for the version most popular with French customers, namely the
simple hybrid (also called Full-Hybrid). Developing a total power of 230 hp, it
combines a 180 hp 1.6 turbo petrol engine with a 60 hp electric motor, powered
by a 1.49 kWh battery.
Sleek and elegant,
the cabin seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technologies. Enjoy a customizable
digital experience thanks to a central console and a 10.25” screen, both
touch-sensitive, offering easy access to your connected life and vehicle
controls. Finished, physical buttons and wheels: now, it is from a touch
interface that the navigation, the multimedia system and the air conditioning
are controlled.
New Generation TUCSON benefits from the very latest connectivity technologies: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or Bluelink connected services which allow you to control your car from your smartphone or by voice. A five-year subscription to Hyundai LIVE services is included with the 10.25” widescreen navigation system.
