Vans and minivans offer more enclosed space than pickups and many SUVs. Here are the best new Minivans and Vans of 2022 based on their reliability, practicality and overall performance.
For those
who still value family outings, and especially if the latter is made up of
several children, the van is still the choice par excellence. Fiat Chrysler
Automobiles renewed its minivan last year with a new style and even a new name.
Each time a manufacturer redesigns its van, and there are fewer and fewer of them, it tries to innovate with unique features, often copied by the competition. As an option, the Pacifica is equipped with an integrated vacuum cleaner to collect the messes of the small convenience introduced initially in Honda Odyssey. The latter, completely redesigned for 2018, offers a rear entertainment system with two touch screens, offering games and applications that we saw for the first time in the Pacifica last year. Finally, we exchange good ideas.
After the half-hearted success of the previous generation, Chrysler changed its tune and landed with a 100% American type Grand Voyager. With its 5.14 m, this large American minivan has definitely chosen its camp: that of family vehicles that can accommodate 7 people and their luggage without harming anyone. It is also a voluntary choice on the part of Chrysler, to have imported the long version of the best-selling minivan in the world.
The Honda
Odyssey Minivan has been updated in the Japanese market with a new look, an
updated cabin and some new tech. It's different from America, including a bit
smaller, so don't expect to see this look in the US.
In front, the Odyssey has gotten a new nose tauter than the previous appearance. There's a row of horizontal bars and LED headlights in the upper corner of the grille. At the back, there's a new tail light bulky and a chrome strip equal to the width of the hatch. A small tweak is that the cornering lights at both ends are now switched on in succession.
The van
manufacturers have not said their last word. With a model like the Kia Carnival
2022, we discover a new and original way to present a well-known formula.
It is often
mistakenly believed that nobody wants vans anymore. However, during the first
half of the year, more than 167,000 were sold in the United States.
The 2022 Carnival inaugurates Kia's fourth generation of minivans. Despite its more massive different shapes which give it the appearance of a utility vehicle, its dimensions are very close to those of a 2021 Sedona. The wheelbase only increases by 30 mm, the length by 40 mm, and the width by 10 mm and the height of 20 mm. Even the empty weight, which still exceeds 2.1 tones, only varies upwards by 16 kg.
Toyota's
signature minivan, the Sienna is available with two- or four-wheel drive.
Whether it's the front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive model, all versions are
powered by a hybrid engine. For 2022, we note the arrival of standard roof
rails in the 8-passenger LE and XLE models. In addition, the padded seats with
leg-rest make an appearance in the Limited 7-passenger model.
The Sienna is only available with Toyota's hybrid system, which uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric assistance to produce 245 horsepower and deliver a combined 6.5 L/100 km fuel economy rating for front-wheel drive models and 6.7 L/100 km for models equipped with all-wheel drive. Each Sienna can also tow up to 3,500 pounds.
With a modernized appearance, an improved interior and advanced technologies, the new Ford Transit Connect is a true evolution. It retains its robustness, durability and characteristic features, including a practical partition allowing the loading of long objects and modular front passenger seats. The vehicle is offered with two wheelbases, short or long, which can offer a loading volume of up to 3.6 m³ and a payload of up to 903 kg, as well as different body variants: panel van or crew cab. The technology improves fuel consumption and reduces polluting emissions and therefore optimizes operating costs.
Today, With
the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris, we are entitled to many versions, but all offer
a more than reasonable cost of ownership, significant fuel economy and ample
cargo space.
Thanks to its versatility, the Metris has several possible configurations. Its format gives it a long wheelbase version or the possibility of accommodating up to eight passengers. Its 208 horsepower 4-cylinder turbo engine and 258 lb-ft of torque allows it to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Payload is 2,612 pounds (1,185 kg). The powertrain is mated to a 9-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive.
We no
longer present the Ford Transit. Produced since 1965, it is a real dean among
utility vehicles. However, it has evolved with the times, offering services and
reliability that have steadily improved over the years, to the point that it
has established itself as a real reference among vans of its size. However,
competition has greatly intensified in recent years.
But never mind, the Transit took advantage of this opportunity to surpass itself again and solidify its status as king of the category. And the latest addition to widen the gap with its adversaries is the all-new 2022 Ford E-Transit, an all-electric version of its star utility vehicle.
Several versions are available for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The consumer can choose between a short or long wheelbase as well as a raised roof. In addition, the buyer can decide between three distinct engines: a 4-cylinder (petrol or diesel), as well as a 6-cylinder diesel. On a practical level, the vehicle can pull weights ranging from 2,268 to 3,402 kg and the payload varies between 1,305 and 3,095 kg.
10- Kia Sedona
Last June, Kia unveiled a new generation of its minivan, the one we know as the Sedona, but has called Carnival elsewhere in the world since 1998. With its hip new design and sturdy stance, the company is talking more about a large utility vehicle than just a minivan.
