One of the
most popular full-size pickups in the US, the 2022 Ram 1500 is available in a
large number of versions.
The Ram
division has announced two new special editions of its popular Ram 1500 for
2022. The first is also the most exclusive. The Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition,
is painted Orange, a color not used on any other Luxury vehicle, and its
interior is accented with orange logos and stitching throughout. It produces
the same 702 horsepower as the other TRX models. It is also the most expensive
Ram vehicle ever made.
The other model is a RED edition offered on the Limited Crew Cab 1500 model, with a choice of 5.7L Hemi V8 or 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engines. These models will feature red badging and with a red bumper.
If there is
a trend that is valid on both sides of the Atlantic, it is that of the “black
pack” or the “black edition” models. A trend that aims to remove the exterior
chrome of a vehicle in favor of elements painted in black. The new RAM 1500
BackCountry Edition follows this path, with its black 18-inch rims, its
two-tone paint with black rocker panels, its black headlight bezels, mirrors, running
boards and exhaust tips as well.
In terms of
technical equipment, the RAM 1500 BackCountry Edition is equipped with tow
hooks, protective plates for the underbody (suspensions, transfer case, power
steering and fuel tank), an electronically locked rear differential, and shock
absorbers calibrated for off-road driving, descent control and specific
off-road tires. This special edition also includes options for the rear bed
layout, such as adjustable tie-downs and additional lighting, among others.
The RAM 1500 BackCountry is available in 4x4 Quad and 4x4 Crew Cab configurations with the 395hp 5.7 V8 engine with or without eTorque mild hybrid assist.
The 2022 RAM 1500 offers a wide range of powertrains, starting with the classic 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Small correction however, the latter is only available with the e-Torque set. We then move on to the regular 5.7-liter HEMI engine and its e-Torque version, both of which are entitled to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. However, the e-Torque version offers better average fuel consumption in town, which should not be overlooked if you live in town and plan to keep this truck as long as possible. Next, we offer you the Ecodiesel engine, a 3.0-litre V6 that produces 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. The last mechanism offered by the RAM 1500 2022 is the one reserved for the RAM TRX. This is a variant of the Hellcat engine found in particular on the Dodge Challenger and Charger. In the case of the 2022 RAM 1500 TRX, we are entitled to 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, which is completely mind-blowing and ridiculous at the same time.
The RAM
1500 Classic is significantly more affordable and for some that's all that
matters, but I'm still pleased that RAM is continuing to offer the next-gen
1500, as the latter is more modern and quite different from the Classic on the
aesthetic level. Moreover, as I mentioned earlier, there are many versions of
the RAM 1500 that are not available with the Classic version and in the end, it
is almost as if the 2 trucks were evolving in parallel.
Interior-wise,
the RAM 1500 is by far my favorite truck. You know I love the Ford F-150, GMC
Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, but RAM's attention to detail and pursuit of
perfection is simply unmatched. It is by far the most luxurious and comfortable
truck on the market. As if that weren't enough, it's also the truck with the
most advanced and intuitive infotainment system on the market.
The new generation RAM 1500 has been all the rage since its arrival on the market and I believe that RAM has hit the mark by focusing on quality, luxury and performance for this truck, leaving the economic aspect to the Classic version. So, buyers who are willing to pay more can get a truck that is truly different. In short, we understand better why the Stellantis group wants to apply the formula to other brands.
