While the Renault Clio is the best-selling new car in Europe in the first half of 2020, it is also the best-selling new car on the second-hand market, in its “Clio 4” version. According to data provided by the firm AAA Data for Capital, the French one has reached 57,968 units from January to June 2020. It is ahead of its main rival Peugeot 208, also of the old generation, which sold at 55,185 units over the same period. Although these two models are relatively recent (they were launched from 2012 to 2019), this is not the case for all the “star” cars in the used market.
Thus, we find much older models among the 10 most popular cars in Europe this year, such as the Peugeot 206, fourth in the rankings, or the Renault Clio 3.

The top  used cars sold since early 2020:

1-RENAULT CAPTUR:

The first-generation Renault Captur still impresses. It sold 34,173 used car units in the first half of 2020.

2-VOLKSWAGEN POLO:

All generations combined, the Polo sold 37,177 units on the occasion.

3-VOLKSWAGEN GOLF:

The Golf is the first foreign model most sold in used cars in Europe. Across all generations, 38,435 transactions were completed between January and June 2020.

4-PEUGEOT 308:

Still available in new, the Peugeot 308 met a great success in used, with 40,456 sales in the first half of 2020.

5-RENAULT CLIO 3:

Launched in 2005 and restyled in 2009, the Clio 3 remains a good versatile city car, both comfortable and pleasant to drive. According to AAA Data, 40,863 units sold on the second-hand market in Europe.

6-PEUGEOT 207:

Sold from 2006 to 2014 in its “207+” version, the Peugeot city car remains popular on the occasion. Nearly 42,000 models changed hands from January to June 2020.

7-PEUGEOT 206:

The Peugeot 206 is no longer young, it was launched in the late 1990s! But its affordable prices attract customers looking for a cheap and globally reliable car.

8-RENAULT CLIO:

The Clio 2 ranks third on the podium among the best-selling models in Europe on the second-hand market in the first half of 2020.

9-PEUGEOT 208:

The 208 is considered a recent opportunity. This model was launched in 2012 in Europe and was only replaced last year by the new 208. During the first half of 2020, 55,185 units were sold in second hand.

10-RENAULT CLIO 4:

As in the new market, the Clio is the leader in used cars. And like the Peugeot 208, it’s a recent model, launched less than 10 years ago in Europe.s sale.

11-Vauxhall Astra hatchback:

You will frequently observe Vauxhall Astra sellers with the Ford Focus on the rundown of month to month successes, and not without reason. Both cars have become familiar names and should be considered in the family sedan class. Of the two, the Astra is probably the most powerful all-rounder. While the Ford Focus has the advantage as a driver’s car, the Astra has an attractive interior and solid standard equipment - each model has air conditioning, cruise control, DAB radio and Bluetooth phone connection, and our favorite Tech Line model also has a satnav. There is a wide range of engines, with up to 64.2 MPg claimed by the most economical diesel. Those who travel long distances in the city will appreciate the 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre gasoline engines that can support 47.9 mpg. A facelift in 2016 gave the Astra a more modern look, and these examples now seem very valuable. You can find a well-equipped three-year example with a relatively low mileage for well under £9,000, and part of the appeal is the huge range of cars that exist.
